Treading the Tribal Route
Rita Ghose visits a new handicraft store that aims to promote various arts
Nihar Mehta and Mamta M, two simple individuals with a passion for art, have come up with a unique handcrafted products store at Versova, Andheri (W), called Tribal Route. The entire motive of the store is to provide space to artists, craftsmen, jewellers, designers, weavers and vendors from different parts of India to showcase their merchandise that is authentic and handmade. Anyone looking out for items that are unique and not available widely across counters would find this place to be a haven. One can even buy merchandise in bulk. A person would think that buying these items would probably be too heavy for their pockets. However, one visit would make them realise that they could get items for as low as Rs 12 to gift someone. Here it's not about the price it's more about the uniqueness and creativity put into each item.
