I think that is what I am seeing.

The fashion world seems to be dictated by women in short skirts and dogs in handbags, so, it becomes very difficult for women to become taken seriously if they wear the don't wear the latest business fashions. So, along with the powersuit and the sneakers on the feet and pumps in the briefcase, pink accessories make it VERY clear to the male power brokers how a strong powerful woman is to be reckoned with, but she is absolutely definitely a woman... No man would dare carry hot pink accessories.

That said the psychology behind why these accessories are making such a splash seems to be the "I am woman" statement. I'm guessing of course.
